Cassius Clay
Collectibles
Heavyweight Boxing Champion & Activist
Cassius Clay is Muhammad Ali's original name, and some of the
best remembered fights of his boxing career were fought under
that name. Here we sell sports memorabilia of the greatest
boxer of all time, as well as collectible items from the personal,
out-of-the-ring life of this three-time World Heavyweight Champion.
Auctions and fixed-price sales often feature programs, posters,
tickets, and autographed photos from both his amateur career
(when Cassius Clay won a gold medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics
in Rome) and his professional years (when Muhammad Ali became
the first boxer to win the heavyweight championship three times).
Here you will also find rare items related to his legal difficulties
and political activism: In 1964, Cassius Clay changed
his name to Mohammad Ali and joining the Nation of Islam.
Three years later, he was drafted but refused to serve in the
Army. He was found guilty of draft evasion and was stripped
of his boxing license and championship title. He didn't fight
again for four years, until his appeal before the United States
Supreme Court ended successfully.
Items for sale here also include videos, and DVDs that will
let you see again the historic boxing matches. Best among these
are three against Joe Frazier and one against George Foreman,
which Ali won by a knockout to win his second world heavyweight
title. In all, Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali won 56 fights (including
37 knockouts). He lost only five fights (and was never
knocked out). He had no draws.
Our lists of memorabilia for sale include recordings that capture
all his pre-match hype as well, where he would 'trash talk'
opponents on TV (and sometimes in person as well) long before
the fight, often speaking in rhyme. Cassius Clay / Mohammad
Ali introduced a new fighting style, which he colorfully hyped
with famous phrases like: "float like a butterfly, sting
like a bee", and he gave memorable names to his new techniques,
such as the "rope-a-dope".
Many products bear his image, and most of those are now collectibles.
His quips, along with his unusual fighting methods, his boxing
success, and his activism, made Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali
a cultural hero. Check out our lists and find what you're
looking for: The Greatest.
